Interleague Football Wrap Up – Welcome back Ash-Wilson Shield!!

The SS&A Ovens & Murray FNL and the Goulburn Valley League played off against each other in the Interlague fixture at Wangaratta’s W.J Findlay Oval. The OMFNL came away from the fixture with wins in both matches, and the Ash-Wilson Shield returning to OM House.

Under 18

In a tightly contested clash, with the margin across the entire game being no more than 13 points and 7 lead changes, the OMFNL overcame a final-quarter deficit to defeat the GVL by 13 points.

The GVL held a 6-point lead heading into the last term, but the O&M surged home to secure a 13-point win, lead by Isaiah Robertson (Lavington), who was awarded Best on Ground after a dominant performance, kicking four goals and proving instrumental in the comeback.

Kade Hadley (Wangaratta) was the OMFNL’s other multiple goal kicker, securing the first goal of the day and putting the icing on the cake with the final goal of the match.

The OMFNL also had standout performances from Owain Boyle (Wangaratta), Corey Petersen (Wangaratta), Angus Jayet (Wangaratta), Cooper Hall (Lavington), and Charlie Lugg (Wangaratta Rovers).

Seniors – Ash Wilson Shield

The OMFNL dominated the seniors clash against the GVL, running out convincing winners by 77 points.

The OMFNL asserted control early, storming to a 59-point lead at halftime, after keepng the GVL to just one goal. Their dominance continued in the third quarter, where they continued the defence pressure, keeping the GVL completely scoreless and extended the margin to 88 points heading into the final term.

A moment of light-hearted relief came 90 seconds into the last quarter when a Bronx cheer echoed through the crowd as GVL finally kicked their second goal, and first of 6 for the quarter.

Joshua Murphy starred for OMFNL with six goals and was awarded Best on Ground honours. Other multiple goal kickers included Kaelan Bradtke (3), Alex Swinnerton (2), and Jacob Conlan (2).

OMFNL’s best players were Noah Bradshaw (Wodonga), Joshua Murphy (North Albury), Jaxon East (Myrtleford), Xavier Laverty (Wangaratta), Archer Gardiner (North Albury), and Ben Rigoni (North Albury), capping off a dominant all-round team performance.
